Lexington Center for Recovery Receives Grant for Adolescent Pilot Program
Mount Kisco, NY (PRWEB) August 16, 2007 -- Lexington Center for Recovery (LCR), one of the leading providers of alcohol and substance abuse treatment in the Hudson Valley, today announced that it has been awarded $304,800 by the State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) for its Dutchess County programs. LCR is one of 14 programs across the state that received a portion of the $2 million that will be applied to pilot programs that target substance abusing adolescents.
Treating adolescents for substance abuse is complex due to their specific needs. Adolescents are still developing physically and emotionally, and substance use intensifies feelings and behavior. It can also delay emotional development.
According to a 2005 study conducted by the Prevention Risk Indicator Services Monitoring System for Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Dutchess County youth DWI arrests (ages 16-20) rose 46.5% between 1998 and 1999.
"The goal of this initiative is to preserve the family unit by making sure that children receive treatment services, instead of being placed in foster care or other juvenile systems," said Commissioner Carpenter-Palumbo. "These adolescent pilot programs will focus specifically on treating health issues facing youth, leading to better outcomes and healthier families."
Adrienne Marcus, Ph.D., executive director of Lexington Center for Recovery, said that adolescents, in particular, need special attention when going through the recovery process. "We strongly believe that the recovery process must incorporate a loving circle of support - for both adolescents and for adults. This grant will enable us to develop a program for our Dutchess County clients who are in need of specialized services for their particular age group."
According to OASAS, the funds are being provided to "certified, not-for-profit, adolescent outpatient chemical dependence treatment programs that use evidence-based treatment services for adolescents aged 12 to 18 who are at risk of placement in the child welfare or juvenile systems or both. Programs will provide services that combine individual, group, and home visits using an enriched staff to patient ratio of 1 to 15 that will include staff with adolescent treatment and family therapy expertise."
LCR's administrative headquarters is located at 332 East Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY. Westchester County clinics and programs are located in Mount Kisco, NY; New Rochelle, NY; Yonkers, NY; White Plains, NY; and Peekskill, NY. The agency's Dutchess County clinics are located in Poughkeepsie and Beacon, NY. For additional information, call 914.666.0191 or visit www.lexingtonctr.org.
