EA Announces Second Year of Scholarship Funding For Innovative Masters of Digital Media Program
Vancouver, B.C. Canada (PRWEB) May 4, 2008 -- Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) today announced a continuation of its support for the Masters of Digital Media (MDM) Program at Great Northern Way Campus with new scholarships for deserving students with their eye on the digital media industry.
EA will award three scholarships in the amount of $20,000 for studies beginning this September. Each scholarship also comes with a four-month internship next spring at one of EA's global development studios to get hands-on experience within the video game industry.
Last year, EA donated $1 million to the graduate degree focused on project leadership and team management skills in digital media. Last year's scholarship recipients Matt Jenkins, Karthik Venkateshan, and Tarek El-Eyran are all currently participating in internships at EA's Vancouver studios.
"The caliber of students in the inaugural class and the body of work they have produced have definitely exceeded our expectations," says Evaleen Jaager Roy, EA's Vice President, Human Resources and Community. "It reinforces that our involvement with the MDM Program has been an excellent investment for EA and a great investment in the next generation of talent for the interactive entertainment industry."
The EA scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, work experience, and demonstrated competencies that are indicators of success in the games industry. All applicants to the program will be considered.
The Masters of Digital Media Program is a 20-month professional graduate degree that offers a project-based learning environment in close collaboration with industry partners, such as Electronic Arts. Through intensive class work and industry-funded projects, MDM students are equipped with the multidisciplinary skills required to enter the booming high tech work force as creators, practitioners and, senior managers.
"The MDM Program is cultivating and mentoring the next generation of digital media leaders," says Gerri Sinclair, Executive Director, MDM Program. "The tremendous support of EA ensures our program stays industry-facing and industry-relevant, which in turn gives our graduates the edge when they step into management positions or start their own companies."
The students in the first MDM Program are already making a name for themselves. "Crossing", the project work of one team, was designated an Official Honouree by the Webby Awards -- dubbed by the New York Times as the "Oscars of the Internet".
Classes for the second group of 35 students will start September 2008.
